Holidays in South East Wales
South East Wales is a beautiful part of the United Kingdom and there are many things to do in the area. Cardiff, the capital of Wales, is the gateway to the region and boasts a huge number of attractions. The area also has wonderful countryside including the Vale of Glamorgan and the Brecon Beacons National Park.
The Cardiff docklands have undergone massive redevelopment over recent years and the area is home to a large freshwater lake which is used for water sports. This area is known as Cardiff Bay and there are numerous bars and restaurants in the location. At the Bay visitor centre (commonly known as the ‘Tube’) you can see exhibitions about the development. You will also find a scale model of the whole city. A number of boat trips operate from the bay giving tourists the opportunity to learn more about the area.
Cardiff Castle dates back two thousand years and is a very impressive site. It is possible to either walk round the castle at your leisure or take a guided tour.
The Millennium Stadium offers behind the scenes tours when it is not holding an event. The home to Welsh rugby and venue for other major events provides a very interesting day out for all the family.
Boulders Climbing Centre is located close to the city centre and provides an excellent day out. No experience is necessary and all equipment is provided.
Children of all ages will love the Greenmeadow Community Farm. There are milking demonstrations, rides and a pets’ corner to visit.
The Brecon Beacons National Park is a stunning region of Wales. There are lovely market towns, canal paths, spectacular hills and a number of castles to visit. There are excellent opportunities for hill walking, climbing and mountain biking.
The Vale of Glamorgan is home to Wales’s most southerly point. The Glamorgan Heritage Coast boasts dramatic cliffs, sandy beaches and panoramic views. The Vale is great for walkers and cyclists and surfers will love the coast in this area.
The Wye Valley and Vale of Usk is a very pretty region with a wealth of things to do. The area has beautiful countryside along with a rich industrial heritage. The Blaenavon Industrial Landscape World Heritage Site gives people an insight in to the lives of the miners from times gone by.
The Nelson Museum in Monmouth has a fascinating collection of exhibits about Britain’s most famous admiral. It even includes his glass eye.
