Things to do in North East Wales

North East Wales is a lovely part of the United Kingdom and there are many things to do in the area making it an excellent destination for a family holiday.

The beautiful Clwydian Hills are a small range of undulating hills and moor land separating the Vale of Clwyd from the Dee Estuary. They provide excellent walking opportunities and there are many wonderful views from these peaks. The highest point in the range is the summit of Moel Famau and the views from here are truly panoramic. Loggerheads Country Park Visitor Centre is a great starting point for those wishing to explore this area.

Llangollen is a wonderful town located in the north east part of Wales. It is well known for having several festivals each year, the most famous being the International Music Eisteddfod. A number of smaller events also take place throughout the year. It also has a number of other attractions that will keep visitors entertained.  The Llangollen Steam Railway runs along the River Dee giving passengers the chance to enjoy the lovely scenery of the area. Llangollen Wharf is one of the region’s most popular attractions. It is now a World Heritage Site and it is possible to take either a horse drawn boat trip or a motorised aqueduct cruise. The latter takes you across the renowned Pontcysyllte Aqueduct which was built by the famous engineer Thomas Telford. Facilities at the wharf include a shop and tearoom. The Llangollen Motor Museum is an excellent choice for a day out for those interested in the history of cars and motorcycles. Llangollen is also a well known area for outdoor pursuits and it is possible to take part in a range of activities including canoeing, rafting, mountain biking and abseiling.

Bodelwyddan Castle is located in two hundred and sixty acres of parkland and is open most days of the year. It is a large historic house and museum with gardens and also an area of natural woodland. Children will love the interactive exhibits and may even have the opportunity to dress in Victorian costume.
