Snowdonia National Park is one of the United Kingdom’s most beautiful areas. The region boasts rugged mountain scenery, in fact the biggest mountains in England and Wales are to be found here. There are many outdoor activities on offer and the area is very popular with walkers, climbers, cyclists, mountain bikers, horse riders and canoeists. Walking is particularly popular in the Conwy Valley. Whether you wish to go on a gentle stroll or you are looking for something more challenging there is something for you. The beauty of the scenery will take your breath away. Enjoy the peaceful forests, spectacular ridges and pretty waterfalls. Snowdonia has some of the best climbing opportunities in the country and the area is suitable for both beginners and experts. Horse riders will enjoy trekking through the magnificent landscape and there are numerous riding centres offering rides for all abilities.

For those of you looking for beautiful beaches there are many to choose from in Snowdonia and the surrounding area. Aberdaron Beach is situated at the far end of the Lleyn Peninsular and is backed by sand dunes. The beach stretches for about a mile and the village of Aberdaron is very pretty with a delightful church. Aberdovey is a lovely little harbour resort situated within the National Park. It is here that the River Dyfi meets the waters of Cardigan Bay. The beach here is recognised as one of the best in Britain and is again backed by sand dunes. The beach is popular with families, sunbathers and water sports enthusiasts. Situated at the foothills of Snowdonia and overlooking the Lleyn Peninsular is the impressive town of Harlech. It is well known for its stunning beach which is considered to be an excellent example of a natural dune system. It has been designated as a National Nature Reserve and a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Barmouth boasts a large beach suitable for families with children. There are numerous facilities available such as shops and cafes. Although great for kids the beach is large enough for those wishing to find peace and tranquillity away from the hustle and bustle of the main areas. Abersoch is located on the Lleyn Peninsular and has some of the loveliest beaches in the whole of the United Kingdom. Abersoch has three beaches and is very popular with watersports enthusiasts.

Snowdonia also offers holiday makers a wealth of other things to do. For those interested in history there are many castles within easy reach.  Caernarfon, Beaumaris on Anglesey, Conwy and Harlech Castles are all worthwhile visiting. Children of all ages will love exploring these medieval fortresses.

Other tourist attractions worth visiting include the Greenwood Forest Park, Bodnant Gardens, the Snowdon Mountain Railway and Portmeirion. The latter was the location for the 1960s TV series ‘The Prisoner’.
