The rugged landscape offers a wealth of opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts. Hiking, climbing, mountain biking and horse riding are particularly popular. The park has some of the most challenging hill walking and climbing in the UK. Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) is the highest mountain in England and Wales, making it a popular choice for walkers who want to test themselves. There are a number of different routes up Snowdon, which vary in difficulty. The views from the top on a clear day are simply breathtaking. It is also possible to go white water rafting (River Tryweryn) and canoeing, and due to its proximity to the coast there are also plenty of opportunities for boating, sailing, kayaking and surfing.

The region has a number of magnificent castles. Those worthy of note include the imposing Harlech Castle, which stands on a rugged promontory overlooking the town, Penrhyn Castle, Criccieth Castle and Caenarfon Castle. There is certainly plenty to see for those who are keen on finding out more about the rich history of the area.

Snowdonia and the surrounding area is also well known for its beautiful beaches. Harlech has a stunning four mile stretch of sands, which has the added bonus of beautiful views of the mountains. Barmouth is one of the region’s most popular seaside resorts. The beach is a mix of sand and shingle, and is a magnet for families with small children. Aberdovey is a small, picturesque harbour resort that offers a number of different water sports. The beach is also clean and stretches for miles.

The area has a wealth of holiday accommodation to choose from, including hotels, B&Bs, lodges, cottages and holiday parks. There are also numerous camp sites for those who prefer to take their own tent with them!
