A Wintry Day Out in Whitby

Whitby, the quaint fishing town on the North Yorkshire coast, is one of my favourite places to visit for a day out. It is, of course, a great destination during the summer season, but should not be forgotten during the colder months of the year. The day we visited in November was just perfect. Clear blue skies and crisp, fresh air, it was just the tonic we needed.

After parking the West Cliff we took the obligatory photograph of the view from the iconic whale bones. The views from here are simply breathtaking. Following this, we made our way down into the town. A quick stop at the penny arcades was followed with a walk across the bridge to the cobbled streets on the other side of the harbour.

Many of the shops on the quaint, narrow streets are well worth a visit. Here you will find numerous little jewellery shops selling items containing the gemstone Whitby Jet. This fossilised wood makes a lovely addition to necklaces, earrings, rings and brooches. I bought a beautiful Whitby Jet ring which I absolutely love.
