The northwest region of Snowdonia has a wealth of attractions. One of the most popular is the Snowdon Mountain Railway which takes you to the summit of Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales. Start your journey at Llanberis Station and end your trip with a visit to the new visitor centre (Hafod Eryri) at the summit.
The National Slate Museum at Llanberis provides a fascinating insight into the world of slate quarrying.
The Llanberis Lake Railway runs along the shores of the lake of Llyn Padarn.From here there are good views of Snowdon.
The Sygun Copper Mine near Beddgelert gives you the opportunity to learn about the old workings of a copper mine.
The Fairy Glen near Betws-y-Coed is a lovely, enchanting gorge on the River Conwy. It is open all year round and combined with a visit to one of Betws-y-Coed’s tearooms makes for an excellent day out.
Bodnant Garden is thought of by some as one of the country’s most spectacular gardens. It lies above the River Conwy and has wonderful views of Snowdonia. The garden has collections of rhododendrons, camellias and magnolias.
The smallest house in Britain is located in Conwy and is a former fisherman’s cottage. It is only 1.8 metres wide and charges a small fee for entrance.
Conwy Castle is a must for anyone visiting the region. It was built by King Edward I and is now a world heritage site. There is also an exhibition on site.
The views from the Great Orme Tramway are truly panoramic. It first opened in 1902 and takes travellers from the seaside town of Llandudno up to the summit of the Great Orme. There is a café at the top where visitors can relax and take on some refreshments. There are bronze-age copper mines on the Great Orme which are open to visitors.
Beaumaris Castle on Anglesey is a most impressive fortress. The castle is now a world heritage site and is open to visitors. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants in the nearby town of Beaumaris.
Foel Farm Park is perfect for families with young children. There are tractor rides, pony rides and chances to meet and feed the farm animals.
